Statue of Guanyin, goddess of mercy with child

In Southeast Asia and Far East, Guanyin (Or Guanshiyin, That âm, or Kwan IM) is considered the personification of the compassion. Indeed, having obtained awakening, she delays her access to the rank of Buddha in order to observe and hear the cries of living beings in suffering, and to come and relieve them of their sorrows, by her teaching.

Guanyin is most often represented in female form, like a mother attentive to the well-being of her children by relieving them of their suffering.
